Turkeys
Most of the turkeys reared in the UK are reared in large indoor sheds. A small number (1.5 million) of turkeys are reared for Christmas as Traditional Farm Fresh. The turkeys are developed from slow-growing breeds and are slaughtered at maturity (18-22 weeks old)
It is more difficult to produce turkey chicks than young chickens. A higher level of stockmanship is required and as a result, turkeys are more expensive.
