The National Farmers' Union
The NFU is the leading democratic organisation representing the interests of farmers and growers in England and Wales.
Its central objective is to promote the interests of those agricultural and horticultural businesses producing high quality food, drink and crop products for customers both at home and abroad.
Central to this objective is its encouragement of environmentally-friendly and sustainable production practices, and desire to ensure the long term viability of rural communities.
Membership of the NFU is voluntary and currently runs to over 135,000, which includes around 75% of full-time farmers and growers in England and Wales. There are over 60,000 Countryside members with an interest in rural land, but who do not depend on farming for a living.
The NFU, founded in 1908, does not receive support from public funds, neither does it support any one political party.
